THE AUSTRALIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH TODAY

If you want to have a growing and evangelising parish, you must understand the realities of church life today.

The Catholic Church today is in crisis, particularly in Mass attendance. Some people would say, what does that matter, as people come into contact with the Church through schools, hospitals and other services?

Apart from the important understanding that we must come together to worship God each Sunday, it is also true that Mass attendance is very strongly aligned to Christian belief. That is, Mass attending Australians tend to have Christian beliefs, non-attenders do not.

In short, if we want to have a Catholic Christian belief system in existence in Australia, then we need to have people attending Church. In return, the Church must provide a community and a quality liturgy to attract Australians to Church each week.
