5.5 A Parish Vision Statement

A Parish Vision Statement is an expression by a parish community of its basic hopes and dreams. It is a statement of what the parishioners hope their parish will become. It is forward-looking and idealistic, serving as a foundation from which the plan for the Parish can be formulated.

As a local parish community looks to its future, it also would do well to share its dream so that the planning can be shared to bring about this vision. The process of the parish developing a Parish Vision Statement can help members to share and clarify their dreams.

In each case the parish will seek to become a truly evangelising parish, but that will look different in every parish as each parish serves a unique community.

An example of a parish vision statement could be

In 2010 all parishioners will be involved in ministry, all will be supported by the parish in growing in the spiritual life, and all will have opportunities to belong to and be encouraged to belong to a small group. In these small groups most spiritual eduation and formation will occur, supported by parish staff and trained volunteers.
